Allergies may be named according to the part of the body affected, whether allergies are seasonal or type of allergen exposure. As a result a person's allergic response may fall under several names. Allergic conditions include:
Allergic rhinitis: is a general term used to apply to anyone who has symptoms of nasal congestion, sneezing and a runny nose due to allergies.
Seasonal Rhinitis: is rhinitis that occurs during a specific season. People who are allergic to specific pollens from grass, flowers, trees or weeds tend to experience symptoms during the season the particular pollen count is high.
Allergic conjunctivitis: is a general term used when the conjunctiva (a clear, thin membrane that covers your eyeball and the inside of your eyelids) becomes irritated due to allergies. Your eyes may hurt and water and become red, swollen and itchy.
Eczema or atopic dermatitis is an itchy rash that may occur anywhere on the body, but commonly occurs on the hands, and in folds of joints such as behind the knees, in the front of elbows arms and under the chin. It is frequently associated with allergies.
Contact allergies: are experienced when the person's skin comes in contact with a specific allergen such as metal, latex, poison ivy, poison oak, or a chemical cleanser. The allergic response tends to be a rash, blisters, itching or red, inflamed skin.
