Allergy treatments will vary according to the specific symptoms and their locations. The first step should be to identify the allergen and try to avoid it when possible. A number of medications are available to treat allergies. In addition to medicine taken by mouth, allergy medications are available as nasal sprays, eye drops, creams, lotions, ointments, bath products and injections. Allergy treatments include:
- Antihistamines
- Decongestants
- Corticosteroids
- Leukotriene modifiers
- Cromolyn sodium
- Allergy shots
- Epinephrine (for anaphylaxis)
